New Cutting Board Styles!

Our Butcher Blocks

While butcher blocks and cutting boards share the common purpose of providing a stable surface for cutting, their intended functionalities differ.

Butcher Blocks: Butcher blocks are primarily designed for heavy-duty tasks in professional kitchens and meat processing environments. Due to their solid and robust construction, they excel at absorbing impact and minimizing knife wear. The thickness of butcher blocks also enables meat cleavers and heavy knives to be used with confidence. Moreover, butcher blocks often come with additional features like deep juice grooves and built-in compartments for collecting and storing meat drippings.

Cutting Boards: Cutting boards, on the other hand, offer versatility and are widely used for various culinary tasks. They provide a reliable surface for chopping vegetables, fruits, and herbs, as well as slicing bread, cheese, and other delicate ingredients. Cutting boards are available in various sizes, thicknesses, and shapes, catering to different culinary needs. Some cutting boards also incorporate features like measurement guides and non-slip grips, enhancing precision and safety during food preparation.

Maintenance and Care

The care and maintenance requirements for butcher blocks and cutting boards differ due to their varying materials and construction.

Butcher Blocks: To preserve the quality and longevity of butcher blocks, regular maintenance is essential. They require periodic oiling with food-grade mineral oil or specialized butcher block oil to prevent drying and cracking. Cleaning involves wiping the surface with mild soap and warm water, followed by thorough drying. To eliminate odors and disinfect the surface, a mixture of lemon juice and salt or vinegar can be used. Additionally, butcher blocks should be stored in a dry and well-ventilated area to prevent moisture absorption.

Cutting Boards: Wooden cutting boards also require regular oiling to maintain their natural moisture and prevent warping. Plastic and composite cutting boards are generally dishwasher safe and can be easily cleaned with hot soapy water. Bamboo cutting boards should be washed by hand and dried immediately to prevent water damage. All cutting boards should be stored in a clean and dry location to prevent bacterial growth

      1. All of our butcher blocks use hardwood. They are equally performant in toughness against knives, and in food safety. They all come with a food safe finish intended to fill any pores making the board food safe. Wooden cutting boards are thought to be anti-microbial, but ours are not professionally certified.
